Association: Many hotels retain the obligation to wear masks

A week ago, masks were no longer compulsory – many hotel and restaurant operators are relieved that they no longer have to check their guests. But not all: Some apparently continue to follow the rule voluntarily.

Almost every second hotel and restaurant business is sticking to the mask requirement for its employees even after the end of the government requirement. This is the result of a survey by the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), about which the editorial network Germany (RND) reported. Accordingly, every sixth company remains with the mask requirement for guests, and every tenth continues to apply the 3G rule.

“Many restaurateurs and hoteliers welcome the end of the mask requirement and the elimination of access regulations,” said the general manager of the Dehoga Federal Association, Ingrid Hartges, the RND. “Many employees are also very happy that they no longer have to carry out checks.”

Nevertheless, there are also companies that are maintaining the mask requirement and the 3G rule for the time being: “According to our current Dehoga survey, 16.2 percent of the companies are sticking to the mask requirement for guests,” said Hartges. “The 3G regulation is still used by 12.1 percent of companies.” The reactions of the guests were mixed. “Many guests are relieved that they no longer have to wear a mask,” reported Hartges. Others continue to wear their masks voluntarily. “Mutual tolerance is important here. Everyone has their reasons that need to be accepted.”

“The omission of the mask requirement for guests does not automatically mean that the mask requirement for employees is also waived,” emphasized the Dehoga boss. The restaurateur decides whether wearing masks can be avoided according to his operational hygiene concept and the respective risk of infection of the employees.
