Sonic struggled to enter the 3D era, to the point that SEGA preferred to remake 2D games, like the excellent Sonic Mania. But in 2022 came out Sonic Frontiers, a 3D open-world action adventure game, breaking all the codes of the franchise. A recipe that still worked, Sonic Frontiers has sold over 3.5 million copies.
The blue hedgehog has since returned to 2.5D with Sonic Superstarsbut according to several insiders, the 3D and open world formula could make a return. L’insider Daniel Richtmann indeed stated that Sonic Frontiers 2 would be in development at SEGAinformation confirmed by MbKKssTBhz5other insider well informed. The latter explains thatit would be a sequel to Sonic Frontiers in terms of gameplaybut the name could changerecalling in passing that the first part was called Sonic Rangers before its announcement. The final title would therefore not necessarily be Sonic Frontiers 2but the spirit of this episode would be preserved.
