Sonic Frontiers: 7 minutes of open world gameplay between platform phases and puzzles

SEGA let long months pass without giving us any news of Sonic Frontiershis next new episode featuring the blue hedgehog, a first glimpse of which was unveiled during the Game Awards 2021. He made his media comeback yesterday with the release of a teaser and the promise of lots of information throughout the month of June throughIGN Firstto start with the broadcast this Wednesday of a very first trailer for gameplay. So what happens ?

These almost 7 minutes of play have something to perplex, between the clipping apparent several times and an open world that seems very empty of life outside sonic, but no fights were shown, so it may still be too early to draw conclusions on this point. What is also felt on viewing is some lack of speed effect even when the character runs flat out, a shame for such license. Otherwise we can see sonic climb a tower by various means, via bumpersrings or grinding on rails as usual, but also running on vertical surfaces which seem intended for this purpose, that he can also climb practicing bare-handed climbing.

This vast island is therefore home to various non-natural elements specific to the gameplay games sonic and other items to collect, but also riddles like moving a statue to open a door, running using the mysterious power already seen in the first videos of the game to extinguish flames and make a funny fruit appear, or even walking on the squares of a grid in a specific order . Well, it’s not going to look very far for the moment, but there is a small side Immortals Fenyx Rising which emerges from all this and which is not displeasing to us.

In the end, this real first glimpse of the gameplay of Sonic Frontiers almost sounds more like a tech demo than a game due out this year on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Hopefully the next videos will be more reassuring. Sonic Colors is otherwise sold on Amazon from €36.55.
