Sonic Frontiers looks back at its gameplay video


There are only a few weeks of respite left for the hedgehog before it has land to roam again. And if SEGA had already presented its gameplay in June, Sonic Frontiers comes to detail all this with a new video. Puzzles, fights, platforms and speed are unveiled in a trailer that leaves no room for empty spaces. We could end up believing that the game does not just wave keys in front of our eyes to keep us awake.

If it’s an open world, Sonic Frontiers shows through its gameplay that it only uses it to offer players choice. The core of the game still lies in the level design, highlighting the platforming game hidden within. Once again, it is the rings to be collected that trace the routes to be taken, which can tend to take away a little freedom in the choice of the players. Yet this world also offers welcome breaks with a few puzzles to solve. Nothing that seems insurmountable, but it’s all about hedgehog speed. And if this formula may not please everyone, more classic platform courses exist. With cyberspace challenges, Sonic can embark on a 3D platforming circuit that will put his skills to the test.

But this trailer also returns to another important point of the game: the fight. The latter gains in dynamism with this new formula, but also adopts the particularities, not always good, of other games. Sonic gets a skill tree that he can upgrade as he unlocks levels. This allows him to expand his skills, and complete his already well-stocked basic panoply with dodges, parries, counters and combos. In short, a very classic open world, with a more pronounced emphasis on platforms.
