Sonic Frontiers unveils a new gameplay trailer and announces an animated prologue

Despite initial moderately encouraging feedback on the latest gameplay extracts for Sonic Frontiers, SEGA continues its communication around the game with a new gameplay trailer, and the announcement of a prologue which will take the form of an animated short film. In addition, the exclusive preview of the American site IGN reveals to us new open world details.

Sonic Without Borders

SEGA first told us thatan animated prologue (at 09:01 above) will come and give us some screenplay keys before starting the adventure in the game. This Sonic Central simply gave us a very short overview with Knuckles protecting the “Master Emerald”. Immediately afterwards, we were entitled to another gameplay sequence for Sonic Frontiers (at around 09:30 above) where our blue hedgehog was seen running on the back of a moving monster.

A nice sequence but which will not change our mixed impressions since the images unveiled by IGN recently. The American site has also released its exclusive preview of the game giving us some new details like an experience gain system or a skill tree. We also learn that the Sonic Team prefers to describe this opus as an “Open Zone” rather than an “Open World”.

If it ever needed confirmation, the footage seen so far is from an early release still in development. Unfortunately, this Sonic’s concern is probably deeper and requires more than a lot of tweaking in our opinion. Some fans seem to agree with this statement given that some of them are even asking for a postponement of the release.

Sonic Frontiers will be released in late 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Switch.
