The American company would market a sound bar Sonos Fury, a little more compact than the Sonos Beam and above all much more affordable, from next June.

According to website information The Verge, Sonos will very soon announce and launch a new soundbar much less expensive than the Sonos Beam. The newcomer, called “Sonos Fury” or more precisely “Sonos S36”, would be marketed from June 7th. And its price would be much more attractive than that of the Sonos Beam: 249 dollars (449 dollars for the Beam).

A Sonos Beam shortened by 10 cm

The journalist from The Verge reports having already seen authentic photos of this soundbar; he elaborated the two illustrative renderings from these.

Regarding the dimensions, the Sonos S36 Fury would be a little more compact than the Sonos Beam, which is about ten centimeters shorter. Specifically, the upcoming soundbar is said to measure 550 x 69 x 100mm. For its part, the Sonos Beam has measurements of 651 x 68.6 x 100 mm. In addition, like the latter and the Sonos Arc, the Sonos Fury would be available in a black version and a white version.

A few giveaways…

Naturally, with an advertised price of $249, the Sonos Fury doesn’t look as good as the brand’s higher-end models.

The soundbar would in particular ignore Dolby Atmos and would be devoid of a microphone (it would therefore not offer any voice assistant type functionality). It would be completely stripped of any HDMI port, which would limit the wired connection to the optical port, as was already the case for the Sonos Playbar.

A surround speaker for the Sonos Arc?

The Sonos Fury should of course be able to act as a standalone soundbar for TV and music content – with the aforementioned limitations. However, Sonos would also see another role, that of a surround speaker to pair with the Sonos Arc. With this in mind, the Sonos Fury could be positioned horizontally, but also vertically via a wall kit. Moreover, you may have noticed the slightly inclined orientation of the side speakers, an orientation that is altogether consistent with a vertical positioning.

The Sonos spokesperson, true to company policy, declined to comment. We should be fixed quickly on the authenticity of this leak, since Sonos could formalize this soundbar in a month, on May 25th.
