Sons of the Forest will feature AI-controlled survival companions

Sons of the Forest is the sequel to the excellent TheForest, which is scheduled to arrive in February 2023, after several delays. The experience will resume what made the success of the first episode, that is to say extreme survival, where the player is released in the middle of nature and must fend for himself. If multiplayer, including co-op, is available, those opting for a solo adventure will not find themselves alone, at least at the beginning.

Thanks to the exclusive preview from our colleagues at IGN, it has been confirmed that AI-powered companions will help us on our quest, the first being Kelvin, another survivor of the accident you suffered. Kelvin is however deaf and will not be able to hear you, which will require you to use a notebook to communicate with him, mainly to assign him various tasks, such as fetching resources, building certain things, or going hunting. However, the use of Kelvin cannot be abusive, since he too will be limited by his vital needs (hunger, water, sleep).

If the presence of Kelvin does not suit you, you will be able to eliminate him, but you will no longer be able to benefit from his boosts, which are not insignificant for solo players according to the first feedback. Kelvin won’t be the only AI-driven companion during this adventure, which promises to be just as exciting and horrifying, as a certain Virginia will also come to help you at some point.. However, this companion has the particularity of having six limbs, three arms and three legs… practical for multitasking.
