sony visibly seeks to improve the model of its PS5 by making it more compact, which should allow it to maintain its margin on the production of consoles despite the current inflation (because the rise in the price of the PS5 is obviously not sufficient). But apart from this new lighter model, it could also be that the manufacturer is currently looking at a completely different console, which would be placed between the classic PS5 and the Digital PS5, thanks to a detachable disc player. The PS5, but in kit form
Yes, you read that right, a PS5 with a detachable disc drive is currently being studied by Sony. At least that’s what the always very well informed Tom Hendersonwhich is sharing this information here via its new site, Insider Gaming.
In his last article, he mentions that sources tell him that this new console could see the light of day by September 2023. Do not wait there for a PS5 Pro, since nothing would change on the power sidebut the big change would therefore come from external disk drive and could be plugged in using a rear USB-C port.
This reader could therefore be detached at will and could thus be replaced without the need for the entire console to go to after-sales service. We are now wondering if this player could be plugged into a current PS5 Digital, or if it will only work on this new model.
According to the insider, the look of the console would remain the same, except that it would be a little lighter and potentially thinner. It is not known whether this model (if it ever exists) will be sold as a bundle with a disc player or if the latter will be sold separately. But eventually it could replace all existing models.
Again, this is all just a rumor for now., and despite Tom Henderson’s reliable history, there is no evidence that any of this is true. Do not take this at face value for the moment, hoping that more information on this subject will reach us in the next few days.
