The PC adapter for PS VR 2 will be released in early August. It will allow you to connect the Sony virtual reality headset to a computer and enjoy compatible titles on the Steam platform.
Faced with sales that are not taking off, will Sony’s PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset find momentum thanks to the good old PC and Steam? The Japanese firm announces the marketing of a PlayStation VR2 adapter which will allow you to use the VR headset on a computer and access the Steam game library to enjoy compatible games such as Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR And War Thunder. The PC adapter for the PS VR 2 will be released on August 7 for 59.99 euros.
The adapter connects to the PS VR 2’s USB-C port and it also requires a DisplayPort 1.4 compatible DisplayPort cable which is not included. To use the PS VR2 headset on PC, Sony recommends a minimum configuration based on a Core i5-7600 or Ryzen 3 3100 processor accompanied by a GeForce graphics card from Nvidia or Radeon from AMD (see the complete configuration in the table below). below).
Some technical limitations
Once connected to the PC, you must download and install the PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR applications in order to configure the headset and access SteamVR titles. “ PS VR2 was designed from the ground up for the PS5. For this reason, you will find that some key technologies, such as HDR, headset feedback, eye movement tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (different from regular vibration) are not available on PC », Warns Sony. On the other hand, 4K resolution (2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger detection, transparent view and even 3D audio are there.
This PC adapter will help to expand the range of PS VR 2 compatible games which, despite a few flagship titles (Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil VIII), is still meager given the high price of the headset. Last December, Eric Lempel, senior vice president of PlayStation Worldwide, conceded that virtual reality gaming was “a bit of a difficult category right now.”
In March of this year, Bloomberg claimed that Sony had halted production of the PS VR 2 in order to sell unsold items. Launched at 599.99 euros, the PlayStation VR 2 is now sold for 499.99 euros.

Yes, the entry ticket for PlayStation VR2 is expensive. It will even cost you €50 more than a PS5. But, it’s still much cheaper than a high-end headset + PC combo to have a AAA VR experience on console. Especially since the technologies embedded in this PS VR2 are for the most part ahead of the PC models.
Now we’ll have to wait for developers to produce games or experiences capable of exploiting them to the fullest, but the foundations are very solid. With such a high price in a time when most of us are cautious about our spending, let’s hope Sony sells enough units to motivate studios to develop showcases like Horizon Call of the Mountain. What a shame that Half-Life: Alyx is not available (for the moment?) on this PS VR2. But Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village should quickly satisfy fans of total immersion.
However, the PlayStation VR2 nonetheless remains the most accessible of premium VR experiences.
