Android 13 has just landed on Sony’s latest flagships. The Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV can now take advantage of their first major update.
Kick-off of Android 13 on the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV, the two high-end devices from Sony, launched this year, have therefore been enjoying their first major Android update for a few hours. As reminded Android Authorityboth devices are eligible for a total of two major updates and will get three years of security updates before reaching their end of support.
Note that, on this point, some competitors do better. We think of Samsung (Galaxy devices are eligible for four years of Android updates and five years of monitoring for security) or Apple (the iPhone 6s launched in 2016 were, for example, still supported last year by iOS 15).
Sony is stingy with details…
The announcement, yesterday on Twitter, of the deployment of Android 13 on the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV, was not accompanied by specific details as to the regions concerned by this first upgrade. Sony also doesn’t say anything about the size of this update to Android 13, or about any security vulnerabilities it will close. The firm also does not indicate that it has added specific features to its devices in addition to those concocted by Google for the new version of its mobile OS.

Anyway, if you have one of the two devices from the Japanese giant, you should see the upgrade to Android 13 appear in the settings. You will have to savor it since the next one (towards Android 14) will be a priori the last.
