Sony Interactive Entertainment: a partnership with an MMORPG giant announced, Horizon Online in its sights?

As the strategy of Sony Interactive Entertainment and therefore PlayStation presented during the Sony Business Segment Meeting 2023 Game & Network Services Segment, the Japanese firm intends to continue to diversify in the field of entertainment by no longer relying only on single-player games for consoles. Promoting its licenses through other forms of media, involvement in the field of e-sport, creation of games live service (a task far from easy) and orientation towards the PC and mobile markets are thus among the company’s objectives. After acquiring Audeze this summer, specializing in gaming audio headsets and technologies in this field, then iSIZE at the beginning of the month, whose expertise focuses on deep learning for the distribution of video content, it is not another purchase that interests us now, but an equally important strategic partnership that has been announcement.

So, Sony Interactive Entertainment partners with South Korean publisher and developer NCSoft by signing a global strategic partnership aimed at encouraging synergy opportunities taking advantage of the world leadership of the former and the technical capabilities of the latter in the field of entertainment, with in particular a collaboration targeting the mobile sector. If you don’t know NCSofthis MMORPG will undoubtedly speak to you more with titles like AIONTHE Guild Wars, Lineage or the late Wildstarand soon the impressive Throne and Liberty and many other projects which have recently been talked about during the G-Star 2023.

THE CEO of the two companies therefore took the floor for the occasion, namely Taekjin Kim and… Jim Ryan. Yes, despite the fact that he announced his retirement and Hiroki Totoki is acting as president until April 1, 2024, he remains present until March next year and signed this agreement.

“This partnership with SIE marks the beginning of our efforts to jointly create various synergies, utilizing the core competencies, technological capabilities and expertise of both companies,” said Taekjin Kim, President and CEO of NCSoft. He added : “We will deliver a new and enjoyable experience to our audiences across and beyond genres and regions. »

“Partnering with NCSoft advances our strategy to expand beyond consoles and broaden PlayStation’s reach to a wider audience”, said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of SIE. “Like SIE, NCSoft shares a similar vision in creating impactful, high-quality entertainment experiences for gamers around the world, and together we are excited to collaborate to push the boundaries of gaming even further.”

With any luck, the next titles of NCSoft will perhaps make the detour towards the PS5, which will also be the case for Throne and Liberty. Otherwise, this adds fuel to the fire of the rumor dating from November 2022 which related to Horizon Online and rightly mentioned NCSoft to the development of what would be a MMORPG in the universe of Guerrilla Games. An “online project” was then made official without further details by the Dutch studio, which we had de facto associated with the same title, since it seems inconceivable that two online games Horizon be developed in parallel. A leaked video had also apparently allowed us to see an alpha rendering of the game. It goes without saying that everything seems to come together and tell us that NCSoft would work well hand in hand with Guerrilla on this project.

If you want to get the new PS5 Slim, it is sold for €549.99 on Amazon And to the Fnac and €549.00 at the house of Cdiscount with disc player.
