The media, which usually takes care more of relaying leaks to inform, advance that the Japanese manufacturer intends to opt for a new mode of production of the main chip of the console. A process called die shrink which makes it possible to reduce the size and energy consumption of the processor, and therefore to improve its cooling, by reducing ultimately the overall size of the machine. A new chip that would solve the production problems encountered by the firm, while allowing to obtain a lighter version of the console.
This new version PS5 would undergo upheavals both in its appearance and inside. First of all, the console would no longer require its base to hold horizontally, which suggests a disappearance of the removable side panels. A design change that would reduce the size of the device, and therefore shipping and storage costs. Importantly, such thinning would require a water cooling system (or water cooling), according to The Leak.
New version, same name
Sony would however not intend to change the name of the console. If the manufacturer used to name its compact versions skinny Where pro, this would not be the case this time: Sony would not consider it necessary to distinguish the two models, since they would offer the same performance. According to The Leak, this PS5 2.0 would see its production begin in the second quarter of 2023 for a release during the third.
This is not the first time that this kind of rumors have emerged on the Internet – Tom Handerson had already mentioned in September the release of a new version with an integrated player – and it should be noted that Sony has not denied or confirmed anything. .
