In the field of soundbars, the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats are generally expensive with models often positioned at more than 500 euros. For its part, Sony has decided to play the economy card with its new mid-range sound bar, the Sony HT-S2000.

Announced last week, this soundbar features 3.1 sound with three voices coming from the front and two built-in subwoofers. In detail, we thus find a central loudspeaker for the voices, two side loudspeakers and two loudspeakers supposed to deal in particular with the bass. The more seasoned will notice that the soundbar does not have vertical speakers to handle Dolby Atmos or DTS:X effects. In fact, to ensure these effects, the Sony HT-S2000 relies on compatibility with other speakers from the Japanese manufacturer, such as the Sony SRS-RA3000 which can act as rear speakers. Sony also communicates on the integration of its Vertical Sunrround Engine algorithms – supposed to simulate vertical sound – and S-Force Pro – to simulate surround sound. However, it will be necessary to wait for the tests to check if the rendering is up to the manufacturer’s communication.

A soundbar that acts as a Bluetooth speaker

For soundbar connectivity, the Sony HT-S2000 has an HDMI eARC input and an optical audio input. It is also Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatible with support for AAC and SBC audio codecs. The soundbar, however, does not take advantage of microphones and is therefore not compatible with voice assistants.

However, it does embed the classic functions of Sony bars such as night mode to reduce bass or the calibration of different voices.

The Sony HT-S2000 soundbar will be available in June in France at a price of 499 euros.
