Four years after its release, the PlayStation 5 should give way to a highly anticipated new model, the PS5 Pro. New rumors point to an ever more powerful console.

She has been talked about for years, between speculations, rumors and fantasies. The PS5 Pro should a priori be released for the end of year 2024 holidays. In any case, this is what we learn from a new leak brimming with technical information and juicy details on Sony’s future star console.

More power and optimizations in spades

In a video published on March 15, 2024, the YouTube channel “Moore’s Law Is Dead” claims to have gotten hold of the technical documentation for the PS5 Pro and to be able to reveal everything that is in the bowels of the console . Shortly after the video was published, Insider Gaming confirmed the veracity of this information by consulting its own sources.

The “Trinity” project (code name for the PS5 Pro) would significantly increase the computing power of the PS5 by reaching 33.5 teraflops (compared to 10.28 for the current PS5). However, changes in the architecture of the console’s graphics card would make the raw comparison of these figures somewhat sterile. Insider Gaming still claims that the rendering capabilities of the PS5 Pro could be 45% higher than those of the classic PS5 and that ray-tracing performance could also be multiplied by 2 or 3.

If the processor were to remain the same, everything around it will a priori be improved since the system memory will be even faster, which could translate into a bandwidth gain of 28% compared to the current console. Upscaling options would also be included thanks to a mode nicknamed “Spectral Super Resolution» and the processor clock frequency could be pushed up to 3.85 GHz.

A console designed for GTA 6?

If this deluge of technical details doesn’t speak to you more than that, you simply have to remember that Sony’s console promises to be a monster of power and a notable evolution compared to the current PS5. These technical characteristics would be taken from Sony’s development portal, accessible by many studios who may have had the PS5 Pro in their hands in order to test their games on it.

If the Japanese company does not skimp on the computing power and graphics capabilities of the console, it is undoubtedly to make its future console the most welcoming platform possible for GTA 6. Rockstar’s immense open-world is expected for 2025 and the PS5 Pro for the end of 2024. The timing does not leave many doubts and it is a safe bet that the studio has already got its hands on a prototype of the PS5 Pro to fully exploit the capabilities of the future console.
