Sony is determined to become essential on the e-sports scene, with the acquisition of the Repeat.gg platform. This website offers players several tournaments on different games (League of Legends, PUBG Where Fortnite) in order to earn rewards and, thus, make “e-sports for all”. Repeat.gg has already organized some 100,000 competitions involving more than 2.3 million players.

Steven Roberts, global esports vice president at Sony Interactive Entertainment, told Gamesindustry.biz: “At PlayStation, our vision for esports has always been to break down barriers so players can compete at all levels.” A coherent purchase therefore, since Repeat.gg is aimed at all players and only requires a simple registration on the site.

This is just the beginning of our journey and we look forward to sharing more news with our community in the future.

At Sony, we are delighted to be able to link e-sport and community. “With the talented team at Repeat.gg, we are excited to explore more ways for gamers to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings. This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more news with our community in the future.”says Steven Roberts to gamesindustry.biz.

Same story at Repeat.gg: “We will have access to more resources, game titles and technologies, which will allow us to grow the team to push Repeat in directions we never thought possible. This will allow us to develop Repeat in a way over the next few years with lots of new features, continuing our mission to become synonymous with esports by creating a home where everyone has a chance to compete and win.”indicates the site in a post announcing the takeover.

This isn’t Sony’s first esports acquisition. As a reminder, the Japanese firm became, in March 2021, co-owner of EVO, the prestigious and famous e-sport fighting game tournament.
