While Sony presented seven new TVs in early March 2023, including the Bravia XR A95L and A80L with OLED panels, we have good news to announce to owners of Sony TVs launched in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Indeed, the manufacturer will soon deploy a free update on some of these models. Thanks to this patch, these TVs will be able to take advantage of a feature previously reserved for Sony TVs released in 2023, namely the EcoDashboard.

Sony is rolling out a free update to older TVs

To summarize, this is a panel that groups together all of your energy saving settings.Customize energy-saving settings based on your TV user, your environment and the content you watch, all in one place, and visualize your contribution to reducing environmental impact”, writes Sony on its website.

Via the Eco Dashboard, you will be able to know the detailed energy consumption of each feature of your TV, and activate some energy saving options such as turning off a TV on standby, or even automatically adjusting the brightness of the screen according to the lighting in the room. According to Sony, the Eco Dashboard can reduce the energy consumption of your TV by an average of 32%which is not negligible.

The Game Menu arrives on old models

But that’s not all. Via this free update, Sony has also thought of the players. Indeed, this patch allows the TVs concerned to take advantage of the Game Menu, a new feature available on the Japanese brand’s latest TV screens (accessible via the 123 button on the remote control). As with Samsung or LG, this is a menu specifically dedicated to video games from which it is possible to customize some options like VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), the reduction of motion blur or the activation of a customizable virtual reticle.

Without further ado, here are the televisions compatible with this free update:

  • 2020 : XH90, XH92
  • 2021 : X80J, X81J, X85J, X89J, X90J, X92J, X93J, X94J, X95J, A80J, A83J, A90J, Z9J
  • 2022 : X80K, X81K, X82K, X85K, X89K, X90K/S, X92K, X93K, X94K/S, X95K, A75K, A80K, A83K, A84K, A90K

Note that Sony was able to push this update to these older models because they are powered by the same SoC as the TVs launched in 2023, namely the MediaTek MT5895. The patch is already available in Europe, the United States and other countries around the world.
