Sony WF-1000XM5 introduced: New Bluetooth headphones with numerous improvements

• Sony has officially launched its new WF-1000XM5 in-ear headphones.

Fans have been waiting for this for a long time, now the time has come: Sony has officially presented its long-awaited WF-1000XM in-ear headphones. According to the manufacturer, a lot has happened so that music fans should get their money’s worth. The new earbuds will be available from August at a price of 319 euros in black and silver.

According to Sony, the WF-1000XM5 have three microphones in each earbud, including dual feedback microphones. This should significantly improve noise canceling (ANC) in the low frequency range.

The manufacturer states that it was the biggest advance Sony has made in noise cancellation. The newly developed V2 processor of the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN2e, which adapts the ANC to the respective environment, is also responsible for this.

The built-in drivers were also newly developed. The Dynamic Driver X could now reproduce a wider frequency range. This ensures, for example, a more detailed reproduction of voices, as well as better bass reproduction in the lower frequencies.

The new headphone model also supports the LDAC codec, which ensures high playback quality via Bluetooth, for example for Hi-Res audio. In addition, Sony’s own sound enhancement DSEE Extreme is integrated, which optimizes compressed music files in real time – as with the Sony WM-A306. Surround sound fans can also look forward to the support of 360 degree reality audio including head tracking technology.

Better call quality, better grip

The manufacturer also claims to have improved the voice quality for calls. The earphones should even offer the best call quality so far. It also uses an AI-assisted noise reduction algorithm based on deep neural network (DNN) processing and bone conduction sensors. It should reliably pick up your own voice even in noisy environments and also suppress wind noise.

The WF-1000XM5 are 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than their predecessors. This should make them more comfortable to wear over longer periods of time. The earplugs are made of polyurethane foam material. This should passively block out ambient noise again and also reduce annoying noises in the upper frequency range. The attachments come in four different sizes.

Other features include Speak-to-Chat, Multipoint Connection, Auto Play, Fast Pair, and Swift Pair 60 minutes The WF-1000XM5 can also be charged wirelessly via a Qi charger.

The earphones are IPX4 protected against splash water and sweat, so they can also be used during training or in the rain.
