What is Sony playing with its next Xperia? The question deserves to be asked as a photo of the back side of the Xperia 1 V has been shared on Weibo. We discover a photo part “toothless»: compared to the Xperia 1 IV, launched last year. Sony’s next flagship would skip the 3D ToF sensor, but also the infrared sensor of its predecessor.
If we stick to the leaked photo, only three sensors are relevant: a main wide-angle sensor, an ultra-wide-angle module and a zoom, presumably. We also note that Sony would have moved the flash inside the island grouping the different photo sensors. Last year it was installed just above this area.
A presentation at MWC 2023?
It should also be noted that this photo goes against (at least in part) a rumor that circulated a few weeks ago about the Xperia 1 V. The latter suggested that Sony could offer a real optical zoom ranging from X4 to X9, while removing the photo block bump, all thanks to technology borrowed from LG. Obviously, we are not there… even if we have to take the snapshot shared on Weibo with a little perspective while waiting for the official presentation of the device.
As for this presentation, precisely, it could take place soon. Android Authority estimates that the smartphone would be unveiled by Sony at MWC 2023. The event will take place between February 27 and March 2 in Barcelona, less than a month away.
It is also possible that Sony will space out the presentation of this new Xperia 1 V from its actual launch. As the specialized site reminds us, the firm tends to launch its smartphones several weeks after their presentation. This was the case last year with the Xperia 1 IV, announced in May and officially launched a month later.
