Sony Xperia 1 V and 10 V: a fifth generation more photo-oriented than ever

Sony offers a limited catalog of smartphones, and formalizes its Xperia at the same time each year. Its first announcements of the year are therefore those of its models 1 and 10, both of which are reaching their fifth generation.

The Xperia 1 V is undoubtedly the brand’s most advanced smartphone. The Nippon retains the usual design of its series, offering a very “flat” smartphone, and relatively thin for its category (8.3 mm). It is as often a large smartphone, measuring 165 x 71 mm, and however weighing only 187 grams. This does not prevent it from integrating a 6.5-inch screen with a 21:9 ratio, displaying 4K up to 120 Hz, but without LTPO. Under its IP68 hood and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, we find the eternal – and excellent – Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, flanked by 12 GB of RAM. A storage of 256 GB completes it, with the support of a microSD port that can accommodate cards up to 1 TB. Still in the connectivity department, Sony remains faithful to the 3.5 mm mini-jack, which has practically disappeared from its competitors. . We note the presence of a compatible 5000 mAh battery, like that of the Xperia 1 IV, with a 30 W charge and with a wireless charge of the same power.

A main sensor of 52 Mpx

As always, the Xperia 1 series aims to demonstrate Sony’s photo skills. This year, the manufacturer stands out with the integration of a 52 megapixel (1/1.35″) main sensor on its Xperia 1 V, of which only 48 Mpx are used for users; the remaining sensor surface is used in particular in video, to improve the optical stabilization of images. This set is completed by a 12 megapixel module accompanied by an ultra wide-angle (16 mm equivalent), and a third of the same definition, with a zoom varying between 85 and 125 mm, like last year (zoom x3.5-x5.2). We can hope that Sony has refined its technology. The brand promises in any case many improvements dedicated both to the improvement of autofocus than that of video capture modes, which include slow-motion at 120 fps in 4K.

A lightweight Xperia 10 V

The Xperia 10 V retains the ambition of the Xperia 10 IV: to offer a homogeneous experience in a compact and light body. On this point, we can only emphasize its lightness – the smartphone does not exceed 159 grams and measures 155 x 68 x 8.3 mm. Like its predecessor, it houses an Oled screen, the diagonal of which goes from 6 to 6.1 inches, still for Full HD + definition. We find the mini-jack socket, the microSD port, the 128 GB storage and the IP68 certification of the Xperia 10 IV.

On the other hand, the manufacturer does not evolve the heart of the smartphone, which is still based on a Snapdragon 695 5G chip, accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and a 5000 mAh battery. Sony is also conservative since, on paper at least, it retains 8 Mpx sensors dedicated to ultra wide-angle and telephoto. Only the main module gains a new sensor, 48 megapixels, for final shots of 12 Mpx thanks to the pixel binding.

Sony indicates that its Xperia 1 V will be on pre-order from June 1 at 1399 €, for a sale scheduled for June 30. Until July 16, the manufacturer offers a WH-1000XM5 helmet for any purchase of its flagship. The 10 V version, meanwhile, will be sold for €499 and it is a WH-CH520 headset that will be offered at the mid-juon launch, without further details. Rates that are aligned with what the Japanese offered last year.
