Sony Xperia 5 III in the daily deal: A top smartphone doesn’t have to be big and expensive

With the smartphones Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III Sony is offering two new top models that differ mainly in size: the 1 III is 6.5 inches in size, the 5 III is 6.1 inches diagonally – although the devices remain very slim. The 5-series model is only 6.8 centimeters wide. In addition, the 1 III offers an additional photo lens with a depth-of-field sensor. Apart from that, the smartphones are almost identical. This means that both Sony devices deliver first-class performance in the CHIP test.

The battery of Sony Xperia 5 III lasts more than 11 hours, but the smartphone is only charged from 0 to 100 after about 2 hours – some other models can do that a bit faster. The high-end smartphone is not lacking in features. On board are Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, water protection, a fingerprint sensor and even a jack for headphones. However, two points were negative in the test: The maximum brightness measured at 634 candelas per square meter is rather mediocre for a high-end device. In addition, the photo quality drops somewhat. That doesn’t mean the photos are bad. The Sony Xperia 5 III takes excellent pictures in daylight, but not quite on the level of the best camera smartphones in the test environment. Slight weaknesses are also noticeable in unfavorable lighting conditions. Nevertheless, the Sony Xperia remains a real high-end device overall, which currently receives a grade of 1.5 (very good) in the test.

Media Markt offers that Sony Xperia 5 III as a daily deal for only 639 euros on. You have the choice between the color Black and Green. The offer is valid to Friday 1 July 2022 at 08:59.

Our conclusion at the time of testing:

With the Xperia 5 III, Sony also provides a slightly handier variant of its current flagship. The two Xperias of the third generation differ only in small things, apart from the display size. The Xperia 5 III also impresses in the test with excellent performance, ample equipment and great battery life. For a 1,000 euro smartphone, however, the camera is only mid-range. However, if you are looking for a comparatively compact high-end smartphone with the latest hardware, you should take a look at the Sony Xperia 5 III.” Read the entire test.
