The government has decided to extend the exceptional aid allowing service stations to offer consumers a rebate on fuel prices. It increases, but not for long.
The government published this Wednesday, August 24 the decree extending the device allowing the French to benefit, for several months, from a discount on the price of fuel.
In March, the government had put in place this exceptional aid intended to contain the sharp increase expected, following in particular the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. A flight that did indeed take place, for a moment moving to SP95 and diesel the bar of 2 euros per liter.
Initially scheduled until July 30 and then extended until the end of August, this aid was once again extended until December 31, 2022. With some changes.
how high is it and until when?
This exceptional bonus does not only extend over time. It also increases, going from 15 cents to 25 cents per liter excluding tax, i.e. 30 cents including VAT. This extra boost, however, is not going to last. From November 1 and until December 31, 2022it will be reduced to 8.33 euro cents, still excluding taxes, i.e. 10 cents including tax.
And then? We will have to wait to find out if the government chooses to pursue this policy of rebates, or chooses to confront consumers with the reality of the explosion in fuel prices.

What fuels are involved?
Consumers will benefit from this rebate for:
- the diesel fuel (B0, B7, B10, B30, B100 and XTL, including non-road use (GNR);
- gasoline (SP95/98-E5, SP95-E10, GPL-c, CNG in compressed (CNG) or liquefied (CNG) form;
- the superethanol E85;
- ED95 diesel ethanol.
For service stations in difficulty, the government is also setting up an exceptional bonus. This additional aid of 3000 euros concerns operators who have sold less than 500 hectoliters of fuel in total per month on average over the year 2021.
