Soon new aid for single-parent families? These numerous proposals under study: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

This is perhaps good news for all single-parent families in France, daily in difficulty and not always sufficiently helped : Thursday March 28, 2024, the Senate women’s rights delegation presented a report produced by Colombe Brossel (socialist, environmentalist and republican group) and Béatrice Gosselin (related to Les Républicains), produced after three months of government mission. It details precisely the situation of these families and the problems they face, and proposes solutions to remedy them. It must be said that the subject is crucial in France today, because as the report explains, “one in four families is a single-parent family”with “a woman at the helm in 82% of cases.” Families affected by single parenthood are also “at the crossroads of the challenges of combating precariousness”but also encounter problems of professional integration, equal opportunities and gender.

Towards better support and support for single-parent families?

Through this report, and after interviewing several specialists, groups, associations, researchers and various structures, the two Senators have identified ten main areas, which could perhaps, in the near future, be adopted by the government. Thus, in addition to the establishment of a card “single parent family”it was mentioned the idea of “revise the standard of living equivalence scales”in a way to “better understand the cost of having a child and the additional cost of single parenthood”. Still with the aim of better helping families in their daily lives, it was also proposed to carry out more information campaigns to find out what rights these families can claim, encourage shared housing initiatives intended for single-parent families (to enable come out of isolation) or even facilitate access “to support systems for professional integration.”
