Soon the return of Google Wallet?

BRIEF After bringing together all of its card management tools in Google Pay a few years ago, Google is preparing to backtrack in order to better distinguish the different uses.

What if after integrating Google Wallet into the Google Pay platform, the firm revived its “digital wallet”? According to Mishaal Rahman, a journalist specializing in everything related to Android, the process would be on the right track. Indeed, Google is said to be developing a “Wallet-style” interface for its Google Play services.

The idea would simply be to offer a single and simplified access to all of its payment, credit, loyalty, transport cards, etc. As is already the case with Google Pay, this new interface would also make it possible to manage all its contactless payments. In addition, cards added to this virtual wallet could be accessible from other Google ecosystem services and devices.

Launched in 2011 as an NFC payment tool, Google Wallet was finally incorporated into Google Pay in 2018, as part of a complete overhaul of the application. A transition that has obviously created enough confusion among some users to encourage Google to consider some sort of rollback.

In the future, things could therefore become simpler again, with Google Pay for in-store payments and sending money between relatives, and Google Wallet for managing its various cards.
