In the dating show “Are You The One? Realitystars in Love” there is a scandal and an episode has to be deleted. A trigger: Sophia Thomalla’s moderation.
Sophia Thomalla, 31, is quick-witted and straightforward – character traits that benefit her as the presenter of the TVNOW dating show “Are You The One? Realitystars in Love”. But not in the last episode, which was shown on Thursday, September 2, 2021, on the RTL streaming platform TVNOW.
A few hours after the episode went online, the broadcaster had to delete it again. Sophia had pestered a candidate with questions, unfortunately at the wrong moment. The result: a shit storm on the “Are You The One” Instagram channel. The victim: the daughter of actress Simone Thomalla, 56. But what happened?

In the successful TVNOW dome show “Are you the One?” ten men and ten women are looking for their “perfect match”. In several “matching nights”, the candidates have to try to sit next to their perfect partner. If everyone is seated correctly, ten lights go on (for ten pairs) and everyone wins tens of thousands of euros.
The scandal occurred in one of these “Matching Nights”. The focus: A piquant conversation that the two candidates Finnja Bünhove and Jacqueline Siemsen had in the villa where the twenty reality stars live. It was about Finnja’s sexual experience with candidate Diogo Sangre, who is also looking for his perfect partner. The two already knew each other before the show and, according to Finnja’s testimony, had a threesome. Spicy: Finnja confesses to Jacqueline: “When he and I started making out, I wished the other would vanish into thin air.”
In said “Matching Night” Sophia – directly as she is – spoke to Finnja about the threesome. The problem: none of the other candidates knew about it. The presenter elicited the secret from Finnja after repeated inquiries and she then admitted to having had sex with Diogo. There was a murmur through the crowd of candidates. The person concerned was visibly uncomfortable. But Sophia’s boring didn’t stop there. She elicited the threesome from Finnja before anyone else. After the “Matching Night”, however, Diogo conveyed that Finnja was not the right person for him because of this action (the threesome).
Sophia’s behavior “went too far”
Shortly after the episode was posted online, a shit storm formed under a picture of the episode in question on Instagram. TVNOW responded and deleted them immediately. A new cut version was uploaded hours later – without Finnja’s and Thomalla’s three-way conversation.
The excited users took the TVNOW statement on Instagram as an opportunity to continue getting upset about Sophia’s re-drilling and Diogo’s comment in the comments. One viewer found that the moderator’s questions went “far too far”. Another user described Finnja’s exposure (by Sophia) as “disgusting”. A comment that garnered the most likes. “To pillory someone who obviously doesn’t want to talk about it: impossible,” another woman said upset. There are a good 1000 other comments of this kind. And Sophia? So far she is silent.
