The late Prince Philip is very missing from his family. His daughter-in-law Sophie von Wessex now talks about her grief.

Prince Philip (1921-2021) passed away in April. Since then he has been absent from the British royals and certainly especially from his long-time wife, Queen Elizabeth II (95), with whom he was married since 1947. “Well, he left a huge hole in our lives,” explains his daughter-in-law Sophie von Wessex (56) in conversation with the “BBC”.

Due to the corona pandemic, it is unfortunately not currently possible for her and apparently her husband Prince Edward (57), the Queen’s youngest son, to spend as much time with Elizabeth II as they would like to. “I think the whole grieving process will probably take a lot longer for us, as it could for a lot of other families out there,” she said.

“There will be many such moments”

As Sophie from Wessex talking about a photo, which she received from the Queen and Prince Philip in Scotland in 2003, she is visibly emotional. At the time, Sophie was pregnant with her daughter Louise (17). She has to pause and explain that just being there was an “oh my god” moment for her.

Such moments have to be allowed. “Just talking to you about it” is such a moment that one does not expect in advance, she explains to the presenter and journalist Naga Munchetty (46). When Sophie lost her mother many years ago, it was the same for her. She was basically fine and something just had to happen, like hearing a certain piece of music, and she would remember. “There will be many moments like this, but it’s good to remember.”
