Sosh launches its 5G offer two years after its competitors and messes up at startup

Great start for Sosh. The twin operator of Orange, available only online, has made price increases in recent months, like all of its competitors, but ignoring a now essential option: compatibility with the 5G network. Its competitors RED (SFR), B&You (Bouygues Telecom) and Free Mobile all entered the race for 5G from the end of 2020, while Sosh was confined, until May 31, to 4G networks. As of June 1, 2023, the operator is catching up, with a chaotic start, however.

Since this morning, Sosh has allowed its new subscribers to subscribe to a single 5G formula: this is billed at €20.99 monthly and includes 140 GB of 5G data (if available), in addition to the usual calls, SMS and unlimited MMS. But what customers subscribing to another package (4G, therefore) Sosh also wishing to benefit from the advantages of 5G? The morning was thus punctuated by complaints from subscribers, to whom the possibility of migrating to the new formula was not offered. Instead, they were offered to subscribe to a subscription billed at €25.99 for 70 GB of data in 5G, i.e. almost double the price per GB if we compare with the 5G formula intended for new customers. .

Express coaster?

Sosh obviously found that his blunder—which may have been a deliberate choice that prioritized acquiring new customers over retaining his current subscriber base—did not go unnoticed. The operator, who indicate this morning meet “a small technical problem concerning the availability of the 5G Plan in change of offer. No worries, we’ll fix it very quickly!”.

At the time of writing, Sosh is offering customers with a 4G offer whose price is lower than its new offer to switch to its new formula. We were able to observe, for example, that for subscribers to an 80 GB (4G) offer at €15.99, the 140 GB offer was available during the morning, at a price of €20.99 and without migration, i.e. exactly the same conditions as for new customers. At the same time, Sosh still offered its 70 GB formula, which was more expensive and less advantageous: common sense dictates that this formula should disappear quickly… Unless the operator decides to eliminate its 140 GB formula from its former subscribers, the remaining package stamped “Offer valid for all new subscriptions” on their website…

Solicited by us, Orange has not yet responded to our requests for clarification. We will update this article as soon as we have more information. It should be noted in the meantime that the contractual summary dated June 1, 2023 and available on the Sosh site does not mention the offer at €20.99, and only details a single 70 GB 5G formula at €25.99 , which again shows some confusion in the operator’s commercial grid. The sheet, however, allows us to learn more about the speeds to expect: count up to 2.1 Gb / s in reception on the 3.5 GHz band and 615 Mb / s on the 2.1 GHz band.
