SPA unveils list of worst animal abandonment excuses it has heard

The Marseille SPA has unveiled the worst sentences heard by people who wanted to separate from their pets. Words of great violence that the association denounces.

In 2019, the 30 Millions d’Amis Foundation launched a shock campaign to fight against the abandonment of pets during the summer. On the famous track “We are the champions” of the Queen group, a video posted on their social networks revealed that France indeed holds the sad record for the number of dropouts in Europe. Every year in our country 100,000 pets are left on the side of the road, 60,000 of them during the summer period. Alarming figures that did not leave indifferent and a “palmares of shame”, according to the 30 Millions d’Amis Foundation.

Others are also campaigning against these atrocities. In this context, the Marseille SPA has made the list of the worst sentences heard in its refuge when people abandon their pets there. Relayed by the Mulhouse SPA, the excuses that some give to abandon their dogs or their cats tear the heart so much they are not forgivable. We have selected the most hallucinating concerning cats:

  • “He’s 19, he meows too loud.”
  • “She makes noise when she goes in her litter box.”
  • “He scratches the furniture.”
  • “I’m giving up on my ataxic 4 month old kitten because he won’t let go when my other cat wants to have sex with him.”
  • “I’m bringing him back because he’s cross-eyed and I’m afraid he’s blind.”
  • “He’s losing his hair.”

And that’s not all. For people who have adopted a dog, too, there are some excuses to abandon your pet. We let you judge for yourself:

  • He is sick
  • He’s useless
  • He’s too old, we’ll keep his leash. Do you have puppies?
  • He is afraid of the storm
  • He is too sociable
  • He climbs the tree so he can escape
  • I thought our German Shepherd was going to be short
  • My new companion doesn’t like it
  • I give up my dog because I am pregnant and I am not immune to toxoplasmosis
  • I find it ugly
  • Its color does not suit me after reflection
  • He is 9 years old, he lives for 11 years so you can euthanize him

Illness, noise nuisance, animal that is not to their liking … All excuses are allowed, probably. Even the worst. However, it is important to remember that adopting an animal remains a long-term commitment and that it is not a toy.
