Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the (expected) video game phenomenon of the 2024 school year. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Entertainment, this action video game has accumulated more than 100,000 active players every day since its release. The studio boss also has a message for the W40K community gathered around the title.

The Space Marine 2 Phenomenon

The Imperium’s armed forces stormed PCs and home consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S) in early September 2024. Since then, Saber Interactive’s Space Marines are dominating the charts on Steam with an average of 100,000 active players each day since its launch. A peak of 225,690 players was even recorded on September 9, the day of the launch of Space Marine 2 (excluding pre-orders). The press and the general public agree that this action game in the SF universe of Games Workshop is a real success with a MetaCritic at 83% (8.0/10 among users) and that this craze is well deserved.

A Message to the Space Marines

Streamers and other videographers rushed as one “Man” to the action video game developed by Saber Interactive. Beyond the Warhammer 40,000 fans who have been waiting for over 10 years for a video game adaptation of this quality, It is the entire “gaming” community that has been fighting for days for the victory of the human race by joyfully and bloodily massacring hordes of heretics. Matthew Karch – CEO of Saber Interactive – took the time to respond to influencer Asmongold under one of his videos about Space Marine 2. In it, he praises old-school video games and a retro take on the industry.

Hey there. Saber CEO here. Love your videos. When we signed the deal for Space Marine 2, all I wanted was a retro game. We were lucky enough to work on something that was inherently old school. I can’t even fathom most of the games we play today. They’re too complex and too much of an investment. We worked on Halo back in the day, and that game was basically just shooters, but it was addictive. That’s what we wanted to get back. I hope games like Space Marine 2 and Black Myth Wukong are a harbinger of a return to a time when games were just fun and immersive. I spent some time as COO at Embracer and saw games that made me want to cry with their over-the-top attempts to convey messages or impose morals on players. We just want to kill for glory and get the heart rate up a bit. To me, that’s what games should be. – Matthew Karch (CEO of Saber Interactive)

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available to everyone since September 9, 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
