She seemed ready to do anything to prevent her children from being vaccinated against Covid-19. A mother was taken into police custody on Wednesday in southern Spain for abducting her children, aged 12 and 14, in order to prevent her ex-husband from vaccinating them against Covid-19.
This 46-year-old woman was wanted for “stealing minors” since a complaint filed on December 16 by her ex-husband, living near Seville (Andalusia), a judicial source told AFP. Actively wanted, the 40-year-old finally presented herself to justice “Wednesday morning”, in Seville, in company “of his two children “, said the judicial source.
The judge in charge of the case immediately informed the Civil Guard, since there was a “Wanted poster”, and the latter “warned the father” of the two teenagers, it was specified. According to a spokesperson for the Civil Guard, the two minors, who have not been to school since early November, were handed over to their father early Wednesday afternoon.
The mother of the family has been placed in police custody, waiting to be brought to justice, added this source.
Spain is one of the European champions of vaccination against Covid, which has not sparked any debate. 90.3% of the population over 12 is fully vaccinated and 90.8% of 12-19-year-olds have received two injections, according to data from Spanish health authorities as of January 5.
Unlike France, where the consent of only one of the two parents is sufficient to vaccinate children aged 12 to 15, the authorization of both parents (or legal guardians) is required in Spain. In this country, however, minors over 16 can decide for themselves whether they want to be vaccinated.
