Sparkasse, ING, DKB, Volksbanken: Several new scams threaten your bank data


Customers of the Sparkasse, ING, DKB and Volksbanken have to be careful: consumer advocates are currently warning of a number of new scams with which the criminals want to get your data. Here you can find out what absolutely needs to be considered.

Fraudsters have repeatedly targeted bank customers, especially since the beginning of Corona. With perfidious scams, they try to tap off the sensitive data of the users.

Volks- und Raiffeisenbank customers are currently receiving emails with the subject “PSD2 strong authentication”, as reported by the consumer advice center. It informs you that the bank is said to be introducing an additional level of authentication given the “high level of tension at the EU’s external borders”.

In order to set this up, customers would have to click on a button stored in the email and then enter their data. As is usual with such phishing messages, the user is not addressed personally – usually an indication that it is not an official message from the corporations themselves.

Sparkasse customers are also currently receiving phishing emails more frequently. In contrast to the scam at the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken, however, the scammers make it particularly easy for themselves here.

It is only pointed out to an “important message” for the customer, which must be sent by May 21st. must be answered. Here, too, there is a button in the email that can be used to open the message. Curious: At the end of the message, the fraudsters wish the customers “best regards and good luck”.

With such e-mails, the following always applies: ideally, do not react to the message at all and do not click on the button. More importantly, do not enter your personal information under any circumstances. Your bank will never ask you to enter this in such emails. It is best to move the emails directly to your spam folder so that your mail client will recognize and move such messages directly in the future.

Since last weekend, the consumer advice center has also received a number of reports of attempted fraud on DKB and ING customers. The former are informed in the emails that the account has allegedly been blocked “for technical security reasons”. In order to be able to access it again, you have to go through a confirmation process via an attached link button.

ING customers are also currently receiving more and more messages in which they are informed that personal data has allegedly “not been confirmed to date”. As a result, the user account was allegedly temporarily blocked. As with the DKB scam, you have to verify yourself by entering user data in order to be able to use the account again.

In both cases, the same applies as with Sparkasse and Volksbank: These are phishing attempts with which the criminals want to get your sensitive data. If you have received such an email, it is best to move it directly to your spam folder.
