“Special evening” in the NBA
Tatum makes huge comeback historically
The Boston Celtics are one of the most traditional teams in the NBA. But on Friday evening the fans of the legendary team will experience something historical again and even twice. An unbelievable number of points enables a huge comeback.
Despite the comeback of the long-injured superstar LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered the next defeat in the American basketball league NBA. Last year’s champion with the eight-point German national player Dennis Schröder lost to the Sacramento Kings on Friday (local time) with 106: 110. James, of all people, had it in his hands to stop the Lakers’ negative streak, but his attempt at a three-point throw failed just three seconds before the end.
The 36-year-old James last suffered from an ankle injury and played his last game so far on March 20. He came up with a total of 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Despite the defeat in fifth place in the Western Conference, the Lakers are still on the playoff course. Again without a win after their recent good performances, the Chicago Bulls with German selection player Daniel Theis remained. In the end it was 98: 108 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Theis posted 16 points and ten rebounds. After only four wins from the last eleven games, the Bulls can still reach the playoffs. This would have to be at least tenth, Chicago is currently eleventh.
Great performance, unbelievable comeback
The club’s record for the Boston Celtics with 60 points was set by Jayson Tatum in the spectacular 143: 140 win after extra time against the San Antonio Spurs. The record so far has been held by superstar Larry Bird alone. “That was a special evening,” said Tatum, cautiously summarizing the historic achievement. The game was decided by his otherwise inconspicuous colleague Jalen Brown, who scored the last points of the evening with 16.7 seconds before the end.
The victory marks the end of one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the league: With 32 points, the team was now behind – since 2009 no club has turned such a large deficit into a victory. Tatum’s historic achievement made for the third biggest comeback of all time.
There was a sense of achievement in the brief stint for Isaac Bonga in the 122: 93 victory of his in good shape Washington Wizards at the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was the tenth win in the last eleven games. Isaiah Hartenstein could not be used at Cleveland after a concussion he suffered on April 25th. Moritz Wagner scored five points in the 75: 92 defeat of his Orlando Magic at the Memphis Grizzlies. In the top game of the day, West Conference leaders Phoenix Suns defeated the runner-up Utah Jazz team 121-100.
