In a few days the starting signal for the 9-euro ticket will be given. This makes travel throughout Germany possible – at least in local and regional transport. In North Rhine-Westphalia, however, it is different: holders of the 9-euro ticket can also use long-distance transport there. A special rule makes this possible, but it only applies in certain situations. We explain what’s behind it and how people in NRW can also use the 9-euro ticket to travel on the ICE, IC or EC.
Whether it’s refueling, going to a restaurant or shopping in the supermarket: life in Germany is becoming more and more expensive. In April, inflation climbed to 7.4 percent, its highest level in 40 years. The 9-euro ticket is one of many measures with which the traffic light coalition partners want to dampen the price increase. Actually, the rules are clear here, but one federal state gives up: NRW.
Use long-distance transport in NRW with a 9-euro ticket
There may be people there also use long-distance transport for their trips, i.e. ICE, IC or EC. This is made possible by the so-called Mobility guarantee NRW (Source: Rheinische Post).
