The popular Firefox browser from Mozilla serves as the basis for the rather unknown “Ghostery Dawn” browser. This is a real insider tip, as it comes with the whole range of Ghostery security functions that protect your privacy on the web.
The Ghostery service has made a name for itself primarily as a useful browser extension that blocks ads and trackers. However, the manufacturers of the add-on also have other security products in their portfolio, such as a private search engine or a tracker statistics service.
Now the makers have released their own browser called Ghostery Dawn, which has all of these services pre-installed. Thanks to the Firefox substructure, many users will find their way around the new browser quickly, but in terms of privacy they will get a much better standard configuration than with Firefox, Chrome or Edge.
Ghostery Dawn: Browser with integrated ad and tracking blocker
Ghostery Dawn already has its own browser extension on board by default. So once you install the browser, all trackers and ads are blocked from the start. This is a good idea to start with, but then you should activate tracking on individual websites step by step if necessary so as not to impair their functionality.
In particular, free sites such as CHIP are financed by advertising revenue. If you want to support such sites, you should specifically allow tracking for them. To turn trackers on and off based on your website, just click the Ghostery icon to the left of the URL bar and choose Unblock Trackers or Block Trackers.

Privacy instead of data octopus Google: Ghostery Dawn comes with its own search engine
During setup, you can also set the Ghostery Glow search engine as the default. Unlike Google Search, Ghostery promises not to evaluate your search behavior. Your data will therefore not be passed on to third parties or even sold, nor will Ghostery use your data to show you personalized search results.
Nice additional feature: A small, colorful circle is displayed next to each search result. It tells you before you click on a page how many trackers of which type await you there.
The better Firefox
Ghostery Dawn is based on Firefox source code, so all features and menus will look familiar to Mozilla browser users. With integrated security features such as the pre-installed anti-tracking add-on and the private standard search engine, Ghostery Dawn does a lot better than the original – a real upgrade to normal Firefox!
Note on our own behalf: Ghostery was bought by Cliqz in early 2017. Like CHIP, Cliqz belongs to Hubert Burda Media.

Hence our request: Please put CHIP.de on the so-called whitelist of your AdBlocker if you appreciate our work and would like CHIP to be able to help you in the future. Thanks very much.
