Specialized trade: slight increase in activity in February (Procos)


(AOF) – “After a declining month of January (-1.5%), in-store activity of specialized retail brands ended with a very slight increase: +0.8%” announces Procos, the representative federation of the sector. The organization specifies that this average presents significant sectoral differences. Beauty and health stores ended the month with activity up 3.1% year-on-year, as did specialized food stores (+ 2.8%), clothing brands saw a further decline to -3 .9%).

Home equipment recorded an increase of 3.3% for one month after declining activity every month since September 2023. Sports stores showed the same activity as that of February 2023 (0.1%). Catering is down compared to February 2023 (-2%).

Procos adds that February 2024 “was a good month for stores in the gift-culture-toy sectors” with an increase of 6.8%, which reflects a dynamic “rare over the last twelve months and not observed throughout 2023” .

After two months of activity in 2024, cumulative store sales compared to the same period in 2023 are down 0.5% for all specialized retail.
