A true all-purpose bike, the Specialized Turbo Tero is already intended to venture off the road to forest trails, being a semi-rigid electric assisted mountain bike to which we have added a luggage rack, guards -mud, a kickstand and a lighting system. The American manufacturer decides to go even further in the off-road side with its Turbo Tero X, a new model with 120 mm shock absorber and 130 mm suspension fork.

Thus equipped, the Specialized Turbo Tero X becomes not only more comfortable, but also and above all capable of riding on more brittle terrain, like the Mustache Samedi Weekend 27 FS that we tested. Unlike the latter, which has two 27.5″ wheels, the Turbo Tero X opts for a so-called “mule” assembly, with a 27.5″ wheel at the rear and a 29″ at the rear. the front — both shod with 2.35″ tires — for a little more maneuverability and more freedom in the travel of the rear wheel — wheel which is here surmounted by a mudguard and a rack luggage on which panniers potentially take place.

On the engine side, we find the same engines as on the classic Tero, namely a Specialized Turbo 2.2 developing 90 Nm of torque on the Tero X 6.0, a Turbo 2.0 at 70 Nm on the Tero X 5.0 and finally a Turbo 2.0E at 50 Nm on the Tero X 4.0. A motorization to choose according to the ambitions that one will have with this bike, the smallest motor being naturally less well equipped to support heavy loads and overcome steep slopes.

Because of heavy loads it can be a question on this mountain bike, the rear luggage rack can support up to 20 kg, while an optional front luggage rack is able to accommodate 10 kg of additional equipment. To be added to the approximately 27 kg of the bike and the weight of its pilot.

The single-chainring 12-speed transmission is signed Sram on the three versions of the Tero X (SX Eagle, GX Eagle and X01 Eagle for the 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 respectively).

The choice of the version of the Tero X will also depend on the capacity of the removable battery: 530 Wh only for the Tero X 4.0, but 710 Wh for the 5.0 and 6.0 which can go up to 120 km in a single charge in eco mode, according to Specialized.

All of this electrification is handled by Specialized’s MasterMind control center. This can be used via controls attached to the left of the handlebar and a screen installed at the stem, in particular to adjust the power level of the assistance, but also to consult the various telemetric information. In combination, the Mission Control application allows advanced settings, adjustment of assistance modes and is used to perform diagnostics and updates.

If the Specialized Turbo Tero X makes you want to go on an adventure, it is however not intended for all budgets, since the 4.0 version starts at 4350 €. The Tero X 5.0 is displayed at 5200 €, while the 6.0 reaches 6200 €. These three cars can be ordered through the Specialized dealer network and on the manufacturer’s official website.
