  • Servette wins the Europa League against Sheriff Tiraspol 2-1 at home.
  • Geneva turned the game around at the Stade de Genève thanks to 2 late goals.
  • The chances of overwintering in Europe are now very good for Servette.
  • In the other game of the group, Slavia Prague beat AS Roma 2-0.

It actually had to happen like this: one garnet-colored wave of attacks after the other rolled towards Tiraspol goalie Maxym Koval’s goal in the second half. In the end, Servette had 27 (!) degrees to his name. But it took until the 84th minute for the home team to succeed.

Steve Rouiller scored the much celebrated and well-deserved equalizer at 1-1. The veteran sank an abandoned ball into the opponent’s goal after a save from Koval. The French-speaking Swiss were back in business.

Bedia remains ice cold

In return, Sheriff almost nipped Geneva’s euphoria in the bud: David Ankeye suddenly found himself alone in front of Jérémy Frick, but got caught on the goalie’s leg.

Servette was unimpressed by this and continued to power forward. In the 2nd minute of stoppage time and after the 12th corner, the referee suddenly pointed to the penalty point in the Sheriff penalty area: Armel Zohouri had held back Joker Jérémy Guillemenot and was sent off with a yellow-red card. Chris Bedia took responsibility and shot Geneva to an important home win.

Severin, the unlucky raven

The game had started very badly from Geneva’s perspective: in the 12th minute, Yoan Severin misdirected a cross from Sheriff striker Jerome Ngom into his own goal. Goalie Frick was caught on the wrong foot and had no chance. Ngom had previously edged out Bradley Mazikou on the wing.

As a result, the Moldovans largely stopped their offensive efforts and only had half chances sporadically after counterattacks. Servette, on the other hand, pressed for the equalizer. Bendeguz Bolla alone failed several times because of the goal net or Koval’s fists. Before the break, Bedia had also aimed too high from the best position – but the ball bounced unfortunately.

Prague beats Rome

Thanks to the first win, Servette is now 3 points ahead of bottom team Sheriff in third place in the table. This would entitle them to take part in the round of 16 in the Conference League.

In the second game of Group G, Slavia Prague beat AS Roma 2-0. Vaclav Jurecka (50th) and Lukas Masopust (74th) scored in the home win. The two teams are now tied at the top of the table.

This is how it continues

Servette continues in the Super League on Sunday: Geneva welcomes bottom team Basel. In the Europa League they will face Rome at home (November 30th) and play away at Slavia Prague (December 14th).
