The gay raptor goes back to a ranger painted in performance blue, which a user on social media called “very gay”. The company spontaneously responded to this discriminatory comment with an animation in which a blue Ranger Raptor was covered in gold dust and rainbow colors, and set an example for the LGBTQ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer). The positive response to the campaign was so great that the automobile manufacturer decided to make the colorful pick-up a reality. Since then, the “VGR” has served as a flagship against discrimination and for tolerance. The rainbow and gold dust design comes from Alphafoil, a Cologne-based supplier of special foils.
