School performance by AfD district administrator causes outrage

In Sonneberg there is again a fuss about AfD politician Stuhlmann. He recently took up his post as District Administrator there and is going to perform at an elementary school. However, he could possibly have broken an important rule there.

The election of Robert Stuhlmann as the first AfD district administrator in the Federal Republic caused a sensation throughout Germany. His first time in office in Sonneberg in Thuringia is also affected by the excitement. Currently, once again, the youngsters in the district are at the center of events. After a neo-Nazi gave away AfD balloons from a car to children in a day care center after the election party, there is now indignation about a performance by District Administrator Stuhlmann in a primary school.

There, the AfD politician said through a microphone to the bystanders: “As I said, the elections, the state elections, will be in 2024. If you do not agree with the previous policy that has been pursued there, then you have the option of a to make a cross in a certain place or in a right place.” The question that now arises: was Stuhlmann campaigning for his party with this statement? Because that would be forbidden in the sense of the neutrality obligation that is imposed on him as a district administrator. The event was attended by children, teachers and parents.

The politician did not mention the AfD directly, but there is still criticism. The Thuringian left-wing politician Katharina König-Preuss tweeted: “Advertising for the AfD? At a primary school? The Ministry of the Interior should perhaps take a look at that. Certainly also interesting for the Ministry of Education.”

Concerned parents are said to have forwarded the video

The video of Stuhlmann’s appearance was published on the Twitter page “Against the AfD”. According to your information, an initiative from Sonneberg should be behind the action. The recordings were sent by concerned parents from the community.

Stuhlmann was elected district administrator in a runoff at the end of June. He received over 50 percent of the votes and prevailed over a CDU candidate. The vote caused widespread criticism throughout Germany. Sonneberg has become a symbol for the strengthening of the AfD, but also for the resistance against it. The party had recently increased significantly in polls, especially in East Germany. In Thuringia it is now well over 30 percent – despite its right-wing extremist boss Björn Höcke.
