Spider-Man: a big inconsistency hides in the film

Back to the first opus of the “Spider-Man” trilogy, directed by Sam Raimi in 2002, and to a major scriptwriting error that occurs in the last part of the film.

We are at the end of Spider-Man, the first adventure of the Spider-Man on the big screen, directed by Sam Raimi in 2002, worn by Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Willem Dafoe. While his Aunt May has just been attacked by the Green Goblin, Peter Parker realizes that his enemy now knows his identity, and that he will undoubtedly continue to attack those close to him.

But could it be that the Buffoon is also aware of his feelings for Mary-Jane? Suddenly seized by a terrible doubt, Peter rushes to a telephone box to call the young girl and make sure that she is safe and sound.

After falling on MJ’s answering machine, he asks her to call him back once she gets home, and advises her not to venture into the dark alleys. That’s when he hears the Green Goblin’s laughter resounding in the handset. “Does Spider want to come play with me?”asks his worst enemy.

This short sequence, which makes it possible to initiate the final confrontation between the two characters, nevertheless contains a major inconsistency for the rest of the story, as recalled by Chris Pavone’s book dedicated to the various adaptations of Spider-Man.

Indeed, supposing that Mary-Jane consulted her answering machine once back home, after being saved by Spider-Man, she must have come across Peter’s message and his brief conversation with the Jester. What make him understand that his best friend and Spider-Man are actually the same person.

However, when the two characters meet at Norman Osborne’s funeral, the young girl does not seem to know anything, and it will be necessary to wait for the end of Spider-Man 2 (released in 2004) for her to finally learn the truth.
