Spider-Man: a new spin-off related to Spider-Man and it’s not Venom or Morbius

After Venom, Morbius and Kraven the hunter, Sony Pictures is launching a new spin-off related to Spider-Man, El Muerto. But unlike the previous ones, this is a friend of the “nice neighborhood spider”.

Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) will play the Marvel/Sony superhero, El Muerto. He will be the first Latino actor to star in a live-action Marvel film. This was announced by Sony at ComicCon which is currently taking place in Las Vegas.

The character of El Muerto, aka Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez, is an overpowered wrestler. The members of his family pass down from generation to generation the mask of El Muerto, which confers superhuman strength. The latter was entrusted to them by El Dorado, the self-proclaimed God of Struggle. But with each passing of the baton, El Dorado demands to fight with the next holder of the mask.

A fight that the young Juan-Carlos refuses. After taking his father’s life, the terrible El Dorado gives the hero 10 years to train.

Arrived in New York, the hero saves the life of the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle JJ Jameson and his son. The latter then offers him to fight against Spider-Man for a charity match. The Spider-Man and the wrestler will then join forces to defeat El Dorado.

El Muerto first appeared in comics FRiendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol 1 #6 in May 2006. Sony has already announced the film’s release date of January 12, 2024, a year after Spider-Man’s nemesis-centric spin-off Kraven the Hunter, currently in filming, and 6 months after Mrs. website scheduled for July 2023.
