Spider-Man: “beyond the masterpiece”, “shocking twists” … The first fiery opinions on Spider-Verse have fallen

In a few days, Spider-Man will be back, in animation, in the highly anticipated “Across the Spider-Verse”. And if we believe the first opinions, the bet to do at least as well as the first opus is successful.

It only grossed $384 million worldwide, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s aura goes far beyond its box office. Awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2019, it is still considered a little gem (whose influence is felt on the recent Les Mitchells contre les machines and Puss in Boots 2 or the future Ninja Turtles) and the best adaptation of the adventures of the Spider-Man to the cinema.

To say that its sequel is highly anticipated is an understatement, and the images revealed so far have only increased an enthusiasm that the seven-month postponement of the release has not dented. And the first opinions, coming from the other side of the Atlantic, are likely to increase the level of impatience of the public, as the returns are more than positive.

“OK. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse stands a notch above the masterpiece. It’s a work of art. Every plan deserves to be exhibited in a museum. The jokes and nods to the Spidey universe are perfect. This is exceptional. Best Spider-Man movie and possibly my favorite movie ever. Cherish it.”

“Spider-Man Next Generation had raised the bar with its unique animation and storytelling styles. Minds had been blown upon its release and fans thought there was no way it could be better. Think again : Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse raises its own bar, which seemed impossible.

There are shocking twists, unexpected surprises, and a story that makes sense for this crazy multiverse we’ve all jumped headfirst into. The new Spider-People are all amazing! You never feel the length of Across the Spider-Verse [2h20, ndlr].”

“Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is, unsurprisingly, awesome. There’s a bigger story, spread over this film and the next, but it’s still about Miles seeking acceptance for what he is. (There are A LOT of Spider-People in this movie) I burst out laughing 8 times.”

Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse marks another turning point for animation

“Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is another resounding victory. The Gwen Stacy ofHailee Steinfeld makes perfect sense, and his scenes with Captain Stacy dubbed by Shea Whigham are really special. It’s darker and sadder than I expected, but it’s necessary [qu’il le soit].”

“Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is a stunning achievement. Yes, it’s visually stunning, with exuberant and expressive new worlds (Gwen’s is my favorite). But the movie’s real superpower is its emotional depth and its beautiful soulful tone. I love this movie so much.”

“I absolutely loved Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. I’ve wanted to pause a hundred times to see the artistry at work. I can’t recommend this movie enough, and I can’t wait to See it again. In IMAX next time.”

Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse doesn’t match the original, mostly due to prioritizing fan service over a strong story

“Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse marks another turning point for animation. Yes, it’s gorgeous and visually stunning, but this sequel goes above and beyond the original by still putting Miles and his family front and center in the story. .Spider-Gwen is also stepping into the spotlight, and taking over the film as well.”

A concert of praise in which a somewhat dissonant voice is heard, while remaining generally positive.

“As much as I wanted to like it, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse doesn’t quite equal the original, mainly due to the fact that it prioritizes fan service over a strong story. It feels like really to the introduction of a two-part story, and becomes predictable towards the end.”
