The very first images of the animated feature film “Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse” unveiled as part of the 2022 Annecy Festival suggest a success worthy of the first part.
It goes without saying that the first images of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, unveiled on this opening day of the Annecy Festival 2022, were eagerly awaited by fans of the first installment of the animated saga devoted to the Adventures of Spider-Man. When asked whether this second opus will live up to the first film, the enthusiastic – not to say triumphant – reception given by the public to these few unfinished excerpts seems to be the best possible answer to this question.
Co-hosted by the three directors of the film Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin Thompson, this panel dedicated to Spider-Man Accesses the Spider-Verse – the first opus of a diptych that will then be completed by Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse ( 2024) – thus allowed us to find several protagonists of the first film, including Gwen Stacy (alias Spider-Woman) whose world we were able to discover, as well as her father George Stacy (Shea Whigham).
In this dimension of the multiverse, Spider-Woman is wanted by the police for the murder of Peter Parker. We therefore understand better why Gwen seeks at all costs to hide her secret identity from her father. Confronted with the Vulture (Jorma Taccone), the young woman is joined in the extract revealed during this panel by Spider-Man 2099 (still camped by Oscar Isaac) but also by a new Spider-Woman: Jessica Drew (Issa Rae).
These three characters will form the basis of a “Spider-Force”, to which will join the Spider-Man of the Universe-1610 Miles Morales whom we find, meanwhile, during a second extract in full rendezvous you with the educational adviser of his high school, just after having faced the big villain of the film, revealed on the occasion of this panel.
Never before appeared in a Spider-Man production, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) will indeed be the bad guy main of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse; don’t be fooled by his costume ball villain look, the black dots on his white costume are actually interdimensional portals that serve him both for the offensive and defensive phases of combat. As the film progresses, his better mastery of his powers will make him even more formidable, despite the constitution of this Spider-Force, to which other incarnations of Spider-Man could join (240 new characters are announced for these two new films)!
Although not finalized, these three excerpts have certainly made the mouth water of the festival-goers present this year in Annecy to discover in world exclusivity these very first images of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. But it will however be necessary to be patient before discovering the finalized film, its release not being planned in our cinemas until May 31… 2023!
Remember, however, that the first installment of Spider-Man New Generation will be available on Netflix from June 30!
