Six years before the appearance of the MCU stricto sensu in the cinema, Sam Raimi initiated his Spider-Man trilogy in 2002 with Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker. Can you attribute the fifteen images in this quiz to the good opuses of the original saga?
This is information that is not necessarily well known to the general public, but during the 90s, it was very close for James Cameron to take a detour through the Marvel universe to create a Spider- Man.
Some names had even been mentioned to play the young Peter Parker, such as those of Leonardo DiCaprio or Edward Furlong, with also the presence envisaged of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role of one of the supervillains, and that of Nikki Cox to camp the character of Mary Jane Watson.
The film – which was planned to be released shortly after Terminator 2, while the director was making little progress on his disproportionate Titanic project – will ultimately never see the light of day, the fault of stories of rights, production costs, and bankruptcy studio.
It was therefore only a few years later, at the very beginning of the 2000s, that the project of an adaptation of Spider-Man on the big screen finally saw the light of day under the leadership of Sony and Columbia, with the return to the front of the stage of a filmmaker who made himself famous in the 80s with his horror trilogy Evil Dead: Sam Raimi.
From James Cameron’s original screenplay, there is little left in the version by screenwriter David Koepp who will take over, with for example the disappearance of the villains Electro and the Sandman in favor of the Green Goblin, played by the excellent Willem Dafoe.
The success will be there, and Sam Raimi will return for two new parts, creating a new trilogy twenty years after that of Evil Dead, he who will return twenty years later to the Marvel universe with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
