Flax seed angel – what is it?

Flax seeds are known as superfoods. Thanks to their mucilage, which stimulates digestion, they have proven to be particularly effective as a natural remedy for constipation – the crushed flaxseed in particular is a tried and tested home remedy (important: drink plenty!). In addition, the small kernels score with omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and magnesium. In addition to their nutritional benefits, they also have another area of ​​application up their sleeves: They can be processed into a natural hair gel, which, especially with curly hair, ensures a true splendor of curls – and also cares for your hair!

Make linseed gel yourself: this is how it works

Ingredients:

  • 30 grams of whole flaxseed (Pay attention to organic quality; note: flax seeds are available in drug stores)
  • A cup of water (approx. 250 ml), Tip: If you have very hard water at home, use low-mineral, still water from the supermarket.
  • As required: 1 – 2 drops of essential oils (e.g. lavender oil), Aloe vera gel (Tip: Here you can find out how you can make aloe vera gel yourself), Lemon juice, a few drops of hair oil (e.g. argan oil, jojoba oil etc.)

Utils:

  • Distilled screw jar

Preparation:

  1. Put the flaxseed and water in a saucepan and briefly boil them. Important: Use whole flaxseeds and not crushed ones.
  2. Reduce the heat and let everything simmer for about four minutes while stirring: the swelling substances cause the flaxseed to release a gel-like substance. Regular stirring will keep the gel supple.
  3. Once the flaxseed gel is the right consistency (it should be something like egg white), remove the pan from the heat. Quickly put the gel in a colander and squeeze it through with a spoon. Also squeeze out the seeds with the spoon again so that the liquid is completely dispensed. Catch the gel in a bowl.
  4. For a pleasant smell, you can Stir in one to two drops of essential oil. Aloe vera gel in the flax seed gel is also suitable for extra care. Optionally, you can also add a few drops of lemon juice. It ensures that the gel receives an acidic pH value and thus the pH value equals that of our hair (4.5 to 5.5). If you want to be more precise, you can get pH test strips from the pharmacy to check the value of the gel.
  5. Pour the mixture into a clean screw-top jar, let it cool, and then place it in the refrigirator.

Tip: Wash out the pot immediately afterwards, otherwise it will be more difficult to clean later.

Durability: The gel will keep for around two weeks in the refrigerator. However, if it starts to smell weird before then, stop using it. You can also freeze the flaxseed gel. B. an ice cube tray.

This is how you apply the flax seed gel

  1. Wash your hair as you normally would with shampoo and conditioner if necessary.
  2. Spread a walnut-sized serving of flaxseed gel between the palms of your hands (up to two servings depending on the length of your hair). Knead the gel upside down into wet hair. Make sure that all of the strands get some of the gel. Comb through your hair with a coarse brush / comb. Note: The hair now feels very slimy.
  3. It is best to let the hair air dry afterwards or blow dry it with a diffuser if necessary. A kind of gel film forms that surrounds the curls. The hair now looks a bit firm and wet – it has to be! The gel film is then rubbed out as soon as the hair is completely dry. To do this, rub the strands between your fingers – alternatively and more gently you can put a microfiber towel or silk scarf over your hair and then knead the hair. For additional care, apply a few drops of nourishing oil to your hair (e.g. jojoba oil) – this makes the hair nice and soft – and the styling is done!

Tip: Made too much flaxseed gel? Then use it for a moisturizing face mask. Simply apply it to cleansed skin and let it soak in for a quarter of an hour. Then simply wash off with warm water.

Flax seed gel: benefits & effects

We love beautiful, defined curls with full bounce – but accepting silicones, fragrances and parabens for this, as is the case with most hair gels, doesn't sound very tempting!
