Splitgate: All the additions of season 2 of its open beta

At the end of January, the FPS in free to play, Splitgate, had launched season 1 of its open beta with many new features on the program. As the studio 1047 games has already specified, the goal is to make it a real AAA in its field. Now, with the arrival of Season 2, the developers continue their ascent by providing follow-up and content input.

During an online event organized by the studio, we were able to discover and try out the contributions of this season 2. Here is what you can expect.

Three new game modes, a revamp, and more constructions

Although you shouldn’t expect anything as rich as the launch, the additions of this season 2 are rich enough to keep you busy for a good while. One of the first things already announced before is the visual overhaul of one of the most popular maps of the title: Abyss. There are also some minor changes to the level design to make the area even more appealing to players. 1047 games is in any case very confident about the work accomplished.

Its great verticality and the many points for placing portals actually make it one of the most interesting maps to play to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by the gameplay. On this field, but not only, we were able to try our hand at three new game modes that will arrive with this season 2:

  • Juggernaut : The mode of one against all. The principle is simple, the Juggernaut is alone against all the other players in the game, however he cannot open portals so as not to create too much of an imbalance. Because the Juggernaut is faster and has much more life than normal players. Whoever manages to eliminate it immediately becomes the Juggernaut and so on. Suffice to say that the time spent as a juggernaut is quite low given the army that we have to face. That being said, whoever manages to score the most points under these conditions wins the game.
  • Hotzone : This is a fairly popular mode if you are into FPS. Better known as King of the Hill, the goal is to capture areas in order to score points knowing that a multiplier is applied if you control several simultaneously.
  • Lockdown : This is an alternative version of Hotzone intended to make reversals of situations more easily. Indeed, in this mode, it is possible to score a point only by controlling the three zones at the same time.

From our few games, Juggernaut seems to be the piece of choice in this batch since the other two are a little more chaotic. The studio has still planned enough to make you chain the parts with the traditional Battle Pass, but the additions promise much more elaborate skins imagined by artists who have worked on other big franchises and freshly recruited.

Finally, one of the big novelties of season 1, namely map building, will finally get some updates based on community feedback. We thus note a new base map surrounded by water for your creations: “Wet Ocean”. In addition, new elements such as trees or crates will be made available to creators. Good news, it will now be easier to share the maps you have designed. No need to invite someone as a friend so that they can play it, a simple code will suffice to download your creation so that anyone can enjoy it.

Splitgate is available free to play on PC via Steam.
