The US electric car manufacturer Tesla is recalling almost 12,000 vehicles in the US due to software errors. This concerns cars of the models S, X, 3 and Y, which have been sold since 2017, said the responsible supervisory authority.
They could inadvertently trigger an emergency braking after an update of the autopilot software. So far, however, no accidents are known due to the malfunction, said Tesla.
Debates about the safety of the autopilot function
Tesla’s autopilot function has repeatedly sparked safety debates over the past few years. The cause were several serious accidents in which Tesla drivers are said to have relied on the autopilot.
As it became known in June, the US traffic safety agency NHTSA has initiated 30 investigations into such crashes, which have occurred since 2016. Ten people lost their lives in these accidents.
