The outstanding athletes of the year were honored on Sunday evening under strict hygiene conditions in the Kurhaus Baden-Baden. According to the organizer – Sportpresse-Agentur Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz – this time long jump world champion and "defending champion" Malaika Mihambo (26), ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl (25) and the footballers of the FC made the race for the favor of the German sports journalists Bayern Munich.

"I am very happy to be able to call myself athlete of the year again this year," writes defending champion Malaika Mihambo on her Instagram account. The Heidelberg resident draws a mixed balance for the year: "2020 was a turbulent year. Nevertheless, I was able to prove myself athletically and even jump over 7m from a short run. But the year 2020 also taught us to draw the positive from the negative. Because especially in during the crisis, many grew together despite keeping their distance, "said Mihambo.
