Spotify: among the first apps to arrive in Windows 11 widgets

After months of waiting, the first (real) widgets are finally about to make their debut in Windows 11.

Yesterday, the famous Spotify platform revealed new figures. Now, it begins to point the tip of its nose in the form of a widget… in Windows 11!

Spotify arrives as a widget in Windows 11

Remember, last October Microsoft launched the starting signal for the development of widgets on Windows 11. Until today, although already present on the operating system, the functionality has not been able to find a real interest to users. This is (among other things) the reason why the Redmond firm intends to step up the pace by finally opening the door of widgets to third-party developers. How to reveal their full potential? Let’s hope so !

In case you missed it, insider-only Windows 11 build 25290 introduced a new feature for File Explorer. And obviously, this one has not yet finished revealing its secrets to us, since it has also just welcomed the arrival of the very first third-party widgets within Windows 11. And in order to inaugurate the functionality, Spotify is the first to meet. But according to the first feedback from our colleagues from Ghacksthe functionality looks relatively under-exploited…

Windows 11: widgets that struggle to convince?

If you already imagined yourself displaying your Spotify player or using multimedia controls (play/pause, volume control, change tracks, etc.) from the dedicated widget, then you will probably be disappointed. For the time being, this only allows you to show you the current musical trends, depending on the country in which you are…

On a more encouraging note, Phone Link is also one of the first apps to support widgets. Here, the use is already much more interesting than for Spotify. Users can see different information such as the battery percentage of their smartphone or their recent notifications.

In general, the customization options for widgets are currently very limited. Apart from the choice of their size (small, medium or large), you will ultimately have very little freedom. Here’s hoping the rollout of the feature in the stable version of Windows 11, which is currently undated, will allow widgets to offer more than just a trending overview…
