Spotify, Apple Music & Co.: Music streaming services at Stiftung Warentest

Spotify made it onto the podium for both Android (overall grade 1.4) and iOS (overall grade 1.5) with the rating “very good”. Deezer followed in second place with an overall score of 1.9 for both operating systems.

Apps like Napster, Qobuz or Aldi Life Music are less convincing. In the test, you only get “sufficient”. You can read the detailed test report with all the results for a fee at Stiftung Warentest.

It is true that the playback itself works largely without problems in all applications. According to the information, some apps get confused if the Internet connection is interrupted. You stop playback and switch to offline mode. The testers also noticed differences and problems when creating, managing and especially when sharing playlists.

Some of the apps send unnecessary data, including detailed technical information about the cell phone used. The experts found clear deficiencies almost everywhere in the data protection declarations. The general terms and conditions (GTC) are clearly or very clearly objectionable in almost half of the applications.
