Spotify hides a snake game in your playlists

The Spotify app allows you to listen to hours of music playlists. But, did you know that these same playlists hide an amazing little snake game? Here’s how to play it.

Spotify knows how to arouse the impatience of its subscribers every end of the year. 2023 is no exception: everyone can now listen to Spotify Wrapped 2023, a retrospective in story form, also available in a “Your Top Tracks 2023” playlist. Moreover, if you have been curious to explore this playlist, or other playlists that you have added to your library or created yourself, perhaps you have made a little discovery.

It turns out that an unexpected game is hiding in Spotify playlists. This little nugget is a snake game, like the one that kept owners of old Nokia phones busy for hours.

Eat this playlist: how to play snake in Spotify

Here’s how to access the snake game hidden in Spotify playlists:

  • Open a playlist in the Spotify app,
  • Press the 3 horizontal dots above the first title of the playlist (to the right of the button to download the playlist, if it is not yours; to the right of the button to invite collaborators, if it is is your playlist),
  • At the very bottom of the list of suggestions, tap “ Eat this playlist “,
  • The game starts immediately!

As Spotify starts playing one of the songs in the playlist, you will see the screen change color. Let’s start the game, consisting of “eating” your favorite musical titles, like a hungry snake. It’s up to you to direct the little white arrow in motion, by tapping on the screen up, down, left or right.

The objective is to catch the small square which represents the song listened to, without ever hitting the sides of the screen or eating the “tail” of the snake. If you succeed, the title is added to your snake’s “body”, and the song changes to new adventures. Obviously, the bigger the snake gets, the more difficult it becomes to maneuver it.

Numerama was able to access the game on the iOS version of the Spotify application. Unfortunately, the game does not seem to be available on Android smartphones at the moment.
